How to Use Altenbach Products

How to Remove Stainless Steel Scale

  1. Soak a kitchen towel in cooking oil and gently wipe the product evenly.
  2. Sprinkle baking soda on the stainless steel and scrub with a sponge.
  3. Wash with dish detergent.
  4. Fill the container with water halfway or more, add vinegar or citric acid, and boil gently for 5 minutes.
  5. Finish by washing with dish detergent.

TIP: For areas with a lot of scale, such as narrow or curved parts, it is better to use a soft cloth. Do not use baking soda or potassium peroxymonosulfate on the inner coating. (The coating may be damaged.)

Precautions for Using Stainless Steel Products

  • Be sure to remove scale before first use of stainless steel products.
  • Because stainless steel products have excellent heat retention and high flame resistance, use is recommended at medium heat or below.
Induction: About level 5-6 on a 10-level scale, use after preheating for less than 5 seconds.
Gas Range: Preheat gently on low heat (within 30 seconds), use at medium heat or below.
  • Warning: If heat control fails, the coating may crack or other problems may occur, so please be cautious.
  • Do not use oil at all when using a cooking pan, or the coating may be damaged.
  • Do not heat on an empty pan or for extended periods with no food inside, as the coating may be damaged.
  • Avoid using sharp metal cooking tools; silicone tools are recommended.
  • Direct impact or scrapes inside the container can damage the product.
  • Do not store acidic foods in the container for long periods.
  • After cooking, even with the flame off, residual heat can remain for a long time, so be careful as it remains very hot.
  • Due to the material properties, everyday scratches will occur on stainless steel. Scratches during use are not product defects but inherent material characteristics.

Precautions for Cleaning Stainless Steel Products

  • Do not put hot products directly into cold water; rapid temperature changes can damage the coating.
  • Do not forcibly remove burnt or stuck food; soak in warm water before washing.
  • Avoid using abrasive cleaners and rough sponges; neutral detergent and soft sponge use is recommended.
  • Rust spots, discoloration, and gray spots are natural phenomena for stainless steel. For removal, clean only the stainless steel surface using vinegar or dedicated stainless steel cleaner.

Dishwasher Use Precautions:

  • Uncoated all stainless steel products can be washed in a dishwasher.
  • Coated pans can be used in dishwashers, but coating may degrade or scratches may occur; hand washing is recommended.
  • Products containing wood materials cannot be washed in dishwashers. (Wood can crack or the varnish can peel off.)

Precautions for Using Induction Cooktops

  • Use cookware suitable for induction cooking such as stainless steel or porcelain enamel. (Aluminum products may cause induction cooktop malfunction and should be avoided.)
  • If heating without contents in the pan, the temperature can rise above 260°C, causing product damage, burns, or fire hazard. Do not heat empty cookware.
  • Induction heating directly heats the container. Residual heat remains on the cooktop's top plate causing it to stay hot after cooking, so please be cautious.
  • Ensure no foreign substances enter the induction heat outlet.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. The coating surface feels rough.

A. The Altenbah coating itself has a rough surface. First, a solution coating is applied by mixing stainless steel + titanium + other metals, and then a second coating liquid is applied. In the first coating process, a rough surface caused by the mixture appears. This is not a defect but a natural phenomenon that occurs in Woodford's coating process applied on stainless steel, and it does not affect the coating durability or speed.

Q. There is a clicking sound.

A. The clicking sound produced by floor-structured products is caused by the metal expansion difference between aluminum and stainless steel. This sound occurs when the temperature difference causes friction due to differences in thermal expansion coefficients and contact points. It happens when the temperature of the two metals rises or falls. This is a phenomenon that may occur as the entire floor structure slightly shakes, and it poses no safety problem, so you can use it with peace of mind. The sound naturally disappears over time.

Q. Scratches occurred during use of the coating pan. Is it okay to keep using it?

A. Coating wears off naturally with use. Scratches, coating peeling, or puncture phenomena can occur. Altenbah coating pans coat the stainless steel surface, so no harmful substances occur, allowing continued use. However, if the coating is severely burnt or the non-stick property is lost and food sticks badly during cooking, it is recommended to purchase a new frying pan.

Q. The frying pan is not flat, so oil flows to the edges.

A. Frying pans are manufactured with a slight center bulge to prevent deformation. If the pan were made perfectly flat, the bulging might occur due to thermal expansion during heating, causing heat not to adhere evenly along the induction line, resulting in uneven cooking. Also, temperature differences cause oil to gather in the center and flow outward, which is called the Marangoni effect. If this is inconvenient, using an oil spray is recommended.

Q. Is the dark mark on the handle rust?

A. The dark marks are discoloration occurring in the bonding process attaching the body and handles of the product. Stainless steel products do not rust, so you can use them safely without worry.

Q. Spots, gray discoloration, or color changes occurred.

A. The discoloration on stainless steel during use is a natural phenomenon caused by minerals in water meeting the stainless steel surface and forming oxidation film. It is harmless to the body. If removal is needed, use vinegar or a stainless steel-specific cleaner to wipe the surface, which will resolve the issue.
